Huanglong (Yellow Dragon) Natural Resort in Songpan county of Sichuan province was put on the World Natural Heritages List by UNESCOWHC in 1992 .
Huanglong Natural Resort on the plateau of northwestern Sichuan comprises two scenic sties : Huanglong scenic site and Munigou scenic site , covering an area of 700km2. Calcification of ground surface is the chief characteristic of the Huanglong Naural Resort . The calcified scenic spots , particularly the colorful calcified ponds and the calcified shoals set off by the mountains , gullies , snow-capped peaks , falls , lakes and forests , look like fantastic scrolls of painting , characterized by strangeness , magnificence , precipitation and wildness .
Huanglong Raving (Yellow-Dragon Ravine) , he chief scenic spot at the foot of the Snow Top Peak , the main peak of Min Mountain Range , is 3.6 kilometers long , 30 to 170 meters wide , and looks like a wide valley . From Fu Yuan Bridge at its entrance to Jade Bah Pond on is top 3,160 m . to 3,574 m . above the sea-level , the ground surface is covered by a thick , yellow calcified layer , looking like a gint yellow dragon , wriggling and leaping in a sea of forests , hence the name of Yelow Dragon Ravine .
In the Ravine are different calcified scenic spots , including calcified ponds , calcified shoals , calcified cataracts , calcified caves and calcified embankments , of which the most attractive are the colorful calcified ponds in various sizes and shapes . There are altogether more than 3,400 colorful calcified ponds in eight clusters in fanciful forms and brilliant colors .
